About AEDES

The Aedes Architecture Forum is an independent institution and exhibition space for the international communication of contemporary architecture and urban design.

AEDES' History

The Aedes Architecture Forum, founded in 1980 by Kristin Feireiss and Helga Retzer (†1984), was the first private architecture gallery in Europe. It has since evolved into a globally recognised cultural platform for public discourse on the built environment, supported by a wide international network. Co-directed by Hans-Jürgen Commerell since 1994, Aedes has served as a pioneering model for many architecture museums and institutions that followed.

AEDES' Exhibitions

Under the leadership of Founder Kristin Feireiss and Director Hans-Jürgen Commerell, the Aedes Architecture Forum has delivered over 600 exhibitions in more than 40 years. Renowned for championing emerging talent, Aedes has showcased the work of many now-celebrated architects—such as Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, and SANAA—well before they gained international acclaim. Today, the Forum continues to present innovative and exceptional architectural and urban visions to a broad audience.

Exhibitions

Through various kinds of events, exhibitions and collateral debates on actual themes, this dynamic platform attracts a diverse range of people from different fields and backgrounds.

The large number of visitors, as well as the global perception of the exhibitions through web communication, newsletters and related partner networks, are remarkable.

Cemex Partnership

As a cultural brand with a strong international reputation and global trajectory, the Aedes Architecture Forum invests in cultivating long-term relationships with its high-profile industrial partners.

Since 2019, CEMEX has been a partner offering a rich knowledge source in the continuous research on design and sustainable construction promoted by Aedes.
