We use a Fuel Surcharge as a fair and transparent way to account for increases in diesel fuel prices and provide our customers with better visibility of the impact fuel cost volatility.
The surcharge uses a diesel fuel price index which is updated monthly to reflect changes in average fuel prices. The index is based on average weekly diesel fuel price data (excluding VAT) from Platts. Each month’s index price is calculated using the average fuel prices of the four weeks preceding the 20th of the previous month. For example the January index price is based on the average diesel prices for the four weeks prior to 20th December.
The surcharge rate is 6 pence per cubic meter of product delivered for every 1 pence increase in the fuel price index above the benchmark diesel fuel price. This rate reflects the cost of fuel associated with haulage across the entire readymix supply chain. A lower surcharge rate of 4.5 pence per cubic meter applies for customers who choose to collect from our readymix plants.
To share the impact of increasing diesel fuel prices CEMEX absorbs the first 3 pence per litre increase in diesel prices above the benchmark price as a fair sharing of risk associated with fuel prices volatility. The diesel fuel price index and the applicable surcharge are published on our website and will apply to all deliveries during that month. The surcharge is invoiced per cubic meter sold so that customers can clearly see the surcharge that applies to each delivery.
