Ready, steady, walk … CEMEX UK colleagues start 2015 Pedometer Challenge

The May Day Bank Holiday saw the start of this year’s CEMEX UK Pedometer Challenge.
This is the 2nd year the company has organised the challenge, with 800 colleagues in 88 teams beginning their walk yesterday. Last year 760 colleagues walked around the world taking 210 million steps, improving their health and raising money for charity.
Andy Taylor, Health and Safety Director comments: “Last year was a tremendous achievement. For some colleagues the Pedometer challenge has changed their lives. Simon Spelman in Logistics not only lost weight and gave up smoking but got all his family walking.”
“Our industry has an aging workforce with the average age in the late 40s. Many of our colleagues work in a potentially hazardous environment so quite rightly, their safety is paramount however, the ‘health’ in ‘health and safety’ mustn’t be forgotten,” Andy concluded.
Each colleague has been given a pedometer and will report their steps to their team leaders on a weekly basis.
