CEMEX Angling supports charity fish-in for MacMillan cancer

CEMEX Angling supports charity fish-in for MacMillan cancer

3rd August 2010: CEMEX Angling is supporting a sponsored 'fish-in' in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at the company's award winning, high-profile fishing complex in Yateley, Hampshire. The event is being organised by CEMEX Area Head Bailiff, Allan Stone.

The event, from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 August (inclusive) is being held during the Angling Trust's National Fishing Month.

CEMEX Angling donates the site for 3 days of fishing and tickets for the event are sold by 'Stoney & Friends', a group established by Allan following the death of his mother to cancer in 1996.

The group has arranged annual fundraising fishing events at CEMEX fishing venues ever since. Allan explains: "Stoney & Friends has grown far bigger than I could ever have dreamt of, and a lot of people freely give of their time to support our fundraising efforts."

Area Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, Judy Spence, said: "Stoney & Friends are a great group of really committed fundraisers who do what they like doing best - fishing! Through organising their events they raise awareness of Macmillan and our services as well as raising huge sums of money to help support people living with cancer.

"We can't thank them enough for their support. Since they started fundraising for Macmillan in 1996 they have raised £320,000 which is the equivalent of funding two Macmillan nurses for three years, or a Macmillan Cancer Information Centre for over two years.

"There are two million people living with cancer in the UK today. We are only able to support half of those people, but our ambition is to be there for everyone who needs us. We have a long way to go to be able to do this, but with groups like Stoney and Friends we are getting one step closer to achieving our ambition."

CEMEX Angling Manager, Roo Newby, said: "We are delighted to support Alan and his friends in their charitable efforts. Yateley is an award winning fishing complex where some lakes have long waiting lists. This sponsored fish-in therefore provides welcome access for keen anglers, young and old, while also giving people the chance to have some fun and raise funds for a worthy cause at the same time."
