CEMEX owns a fleet of over 400 vehicles which transport cement, aggregates and readymixed concrete. The company has made significant investment in fitting extra safety features such as rear signage on the nearside corner, additional nearside mirrors over and above legislation to aid visibility all around the vehicle and proximity sensors which has an indicator in the cab to warn the driver and activated message for anyone passing too close to the nearside of the vehicle.
Cyclist Events
In 2010 we attended over 30 different cyclist events throughout the country, including some in partnership with the London Metropolitan Police. Using one of our vehicles we encouraged in total, over 3000 cyclists to get into the cab. The aim was to show cyclists the road from the drivers' perspective and to educate them about the blind areas around a vehicle.
For many cyclists this was a profound experience as they realised the difficulties faced by LGV drivers on busy roads and the possible dangers they had placed themselves in when cycling in the past.
