In the UK, CEMEX dates back to 1930 when the country's first readymix concrete plant was established by Ready Mixed Concrete.

The plant was the inspiration of Danish engineer Kjeld Olaf Anker Ammentorp, who had experience of using readymix concrete in Copenhagen where it had been available since 1924. Rather than creating a roughly gauged mix of cement, gravel and water on building sites, Ammentorp decided to deliver ready-made concrete to sites from a centralised production point.

Ammentorp imported a fleet of hybrid trucks from Denmark to carry loads of concrete in agitator drums. This helped spark a revolution in the industry.

Ready Mixed Concrete (United Kingdom) Limited went public in 1962 as and was later renamed RMC Group p.l.c. By the turn of the millennium, the group was operating in 26 countries. RMC also acquired Rugby Group p.l.c. in year 2000 to strengthen its cement capability. CEMEX acquired RMC Group in 2005, to become one of the world's largest building materials groups with operations in more than 50 countries.
